I had seen a lot of reports that adding -force-vulkan helped with performance on steam deck, so I started out trying that. I tried it with Proton stable, experimental, and GE and they all crashed before hitting main menu. Then I removed the extra option and it played fine... whatever. Not tested extensively, but climbed a bit of the first DLC mountain. Left settings where they were (720p, low everything) and it looks pretty ok and felt smooth to me.
Known issues
crashes if you add -force-vulkan. Don't do that, I guess.
