PerformanceMajor issues
Turning down the resolution to the minimum and putting the FoV at 85%, the frame rate is in the mid thirties, so it's more or less sufficient for reprojection to 72fps. Subjectively, this seems usable since the game deliberately doesn't allow smooth locomotion and you don't need to see things in a lot of detail to play, but this was only tested at the beginning of the first actual level, so it could get worse.
Tinkering or fix steps
Make sure you're using reprojection, lower the resolution to the minimum, and with the performance overlay on you should be able to lower the FoV to get the overlay solid yellow. Maybe start at 85% in the default shape and see what you can get away with.
